Thoughts from the Bloggers meetup (and more!)
- As was heavily publicized by all parties involved, a militia of Twins bloggers and readers congregated at Buffalo Wild Wings on Saturday to chat, watch and eat (and, for everyone else besides myself, drink tall glasses of beer). Unfortunately, the Twins managed just one hit for the first seven innings of the game and finished with just three total, losing 3-0 to the White Sox.
Friday's game was post poned because of the cold, and there was concern that this game would be as well. The game time temperature was 31 degrees and pitching was certainly the story of the game. Carlos Silva made his season debut for the Twins, to the chagrin of almost everyone, but pitched quite well.
He only made it five innings, but gave up just one run on five hits. Silva was helped by two double plays but was certainly walking the line with the sinker, recording just as many flyball outs (7) as groundball outs.
The player of the game was White Sox starter Javier Vazquez who manhandled a Twins lineup that came into the game averaging almost 6 runs a game. Vazquez went 6 and 2/3 giving up no runs on just one hit, a second inning single from Michael Cuddyer.
That second inning was his only true jam, as he walked Justin Morneau and Jason Kubel to load the bases with one out. However, Cuddyer got him out of the inning by making an egregious base running error: sprinting home for some reason on a Jason Tyner pop up and getting easily doubled up at third.
As far as the bloggers: Twins Geek brought complimentary GameDay programs for everyone, Aaron Gleeman was peppered incessantly about his new house (also see the post below), the Nicks brought half of floor five from the U of M, SBG wowed the crowd by looking up VORP on his cell phone, Will Young was in high spirits and apparently has overcome George Washington's ugly NCAA tournament loss and Howard Sinker sat back and let the baseball knowledge flow.

(That's Sinker on the left and TwinsGeek on the right...Actually I found this on some family's "Trip to Canada" album.)
I also personally met Boof, EveryDaySuperGoddess, Twinstalker and Ski U Mah Gopher. A great time was had by all, and I would assume there will be another in the near future.
- Yesterday the Twins notched the series (which will be finished at a later date) at 1-1 with a nice 3-1 Easter Sunday win. The Twins' only score came off of a gargantuan 3 run homer from Justin Morneau in the fourth.
Johan was nothing short of phenomenal, looking a lot like September Santana; something not common for him in April. He went 7 innings and gave up just one hit while striking out nine.
They probably could've sent him out there for the eighth inning, as he got through 7 with just 97 pitches, but Lavelle noted in his column yesterday that the Twins are trying not to work the ace too hard in the beginning of the season, to the point where they offered to have him pitch tonight against the Yankees on seven days rest.
Unfortunately, Jesse Crain came into the game and promptly gave up a dinger to Juan Uribe. However, no more damage was done as Jesse took care of his business and handed it over to Joe Nathan. Joe gave up two quick hits but didn't allow a run, getting his third save of the year.
